This cocktail was going to be called “Early Morning Mist at Burrator Reservoir in Late May with the Scent of Pine in the Air and Bluebells in Bloom Carpeting the Forest Floor”. We’d like to you to spend more time enjoying the drink than ordering it, so we changed the name, but here is why it was going to be called that.
This cocktail is inspired by one of Chef Rush’s favourite places in the world, Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England, the bucolic southwest of the United Kingdom he calls home. Within the heart of Dartmoor is Burrator Reservoir, the main water source for the local area, which includes the city of Plymouth, and yes, more specifically, Plymouth Gin.
Burrator and the surrounding moors often times find themselves shrouded in an early morning mist. As the sun rises, the mist slowly cascades down the valley, rolling towards Plymouth until it dissipates with the rays of the sun, revealing the reservoir below.
The reservoir is also nestled amongst evergreen forests. During the month of May, bluebells come into bloom and carpet these forest floors. A soundtrack of birdsong and the trickling waters of Drake's Leat plays softly in the air. Everything comes together to create a breathtakingly scenic, idyllic and magical place and one of the reasons why Chef Rush loves this place so much.
We’d like to share some images and videos with you so you can be transported there while you enjoy your cocktail.
